The Plattsburgh Pioneers were the first US expansion team for the QMJHL joining the league in 1984. The expansion was an unmitigated disaster as the league refused to have an expansion draft to stock the team. As a result, the club was made up of US born players who weren’t good enough to make NCAA teams. The club lost all 17 games it played before packing it in. The league, likely embarrassed by the situation, wiped out the records of all games played by the Pioneers taking away the wins and point by the players earned against them. For many years after, there was little evidence that the team had ever existed. This rare puck, with the QMJHL logo on the back, is nice piece of hockey history.
