So what exactly is a Fincup? In 1974, the Junior ‘A’ Hamilton Red Wings changed their name to the Fincups and while the team was successful on the ice winning a Memorial Cup in 1976, they had to move when the old Barton Street Arena was torn down. After spending a season in St. Catharines as the Fincups, they returned to Hamilton for one final season at the Mountain Arena before becoming the Brantford Alexanders in 1978. The club would bounce around a few more times before becoming the Erie Otters in 1996. So what is a Fincup? It was the combination of the last names of the owners, Finochio and Cupido.
