Calgary made another attempt at Junior hockey when the Hitmen joined in 1995. Most were skeptical since the consensus at that time was that Junior hockey could not thrive in an NHL market. The logo and name was modeled after pro wrestler Bret ‘the Hitman’ Hart who was involved in ownership. The new logo was deemed too violent by some and the team caved into pressure adopting the starburst logo for their first season but soon returned to the current logo although the pink (part of Bret’s look) has changed to red over time. They have already won two league titles in their relatively short history. Pictured is a pink ‘Starburst’ logo from their first season along with a current puck.
