Barrie has a long Junior hockey history. Clubs have participated in the OHA since the late 1890’s. Its Junior clubs would have competed for the Memorial Cup up until 1934 when Junior hockey was split into ‘A’ and ‘B’ levels. The Colts name goes back at least to the early 1930’s. Barrie continued on mostly as a Jr ‘B’ club eventually finding a home in the OHA Central Junior B’ loop. Barrie did participate at the Junior ‘A’ level from 1945-60 as the Barrie Flyers before relocating to Niagara Falls. Finally, in 1995, the OHL expanded into Barrie to form the OHL version of the Colts. Pictured is a circa 1980 Jr’B’ Colts puck along with a current Colts OHL puck.
